Winter Moving Tips

Moving in the winter months can be much trickier than moving during a warmer time of the year. Snow, ice, and colder temperatures can create a unique set of challenges. Here are some tips for a safe and successful move during the winter.

Protect your items

Fragile items and electronics can sustain damage due to temperature changes and can crack if the temperature drops too quickly. Consider moving these items in a car, rather than a moving van, to help regulate the temperature and keep them safe.

Clear Snow and Ice from Walkways

Moving heavy items becomes much more dangerous when the ground is slick. Before the movers begin, shovel your walkways and use a de-icer to make sure no one takes a tumble. The last thing you want is for someone to get hurt by falling on a slick walkway.

Cover your Floors

With foot traffic going in and out of your home, your floors are bound to get a little dirty. Protect them and make the cleanup easier by laying down plastic or cardboard on your home’s walkways.

Do a little something extra for your movers

Whether you’ve hired professional movers or convinced some friends to help you, show them some gratitude by offering warm drinks. Coffee, hot cocoa, or cider are a great way to warm up and say thank you. If your move was complicated or around the holidays, consider tipping a little more as well.

Moving can be stressful any time of year, but we hope these tips will make your winter move as seamless as possible!
