Tasks to Keep Your Yard Tidy

Springtime is here and summer is just around the corner! We’ll all be spending much more time outside in the coming months. Here are a few tasks to stay on top of to help keep your yard in tip-top shape for you, your family, and your friends to enjoy.

Keep up with pruning

Prune smaller shrubs more often to keep a clean look and optimize growth. But don’t forget about larger bushes and trees. Keep an eye out for damaged or decaying limbs and branches.

Weed and Mulch

Get to those pesky weeds early and help your lawn flourish. One way to help with weeds in your flowerbeds is to keep an inch or two of mulch on them. This helps curb weeds altogether. And then just keep up with pulling persistent weeds out by the roots to keep them from coming back.

Mow smartly

You’ll want to mow to keep the lawn looking clean and fresh. But you don’t want to end up cutting the grass too short as this can actually lead to less healthy grass. Longer stalks retain water better and are much healthier. Simply adjust the height setting on your mower to prevent this. Another pro tip is to leave grass cuttings right on your lawn. This cut grass is full of nutrients that will decay quickly, adding much needed fertilization back to the lawn.

Invest in a designated storage spot

Kids’ toys, water toys, sports equipment and furniture can quickly clutter up your yard. Invest in a storage solution like a small shed (if you don’t already have one) or storage bins around a pool, on a deck or in a garage. Pick up the clutter regularly to keep your yard looking its best. Give us at Smithfield Storage a call today at 919-934-7446 for information on a storage unit to store winter gear and bulky items you seldom use. This will help get clutter off your lawn and out of your house.
