It's MOVING time! Are you ready? Moving from one home to another can be a daunting task. It takes a lot of time, effort, and can be a bit stressful. To help the process go smoother, here's a few moving tips:

Start Early

How early should you start? Well, when you’re ready to list your home or seriously start looking at homes. There’s no exact time to start, just as there’s no exact number of houses you’ll tour before you find the one. The earlier you begin packing, the more sanity you will have upon moving. Don’t get me wrong, it may not seem like fun to wake up every Saturday and pack 1-2 boxes; however, this will make a HUGE difference. Beginning early allows you to still have your weekends free and make those last memories in your current home enjoyable for years to come.

Declutter The Mess

There’s nothing worse than packing items from your storage closet you haven’t touched in 5+ years only to move them to another storage closet where they will sit for another 5+ years...or longer. Take this time to go through all your belongings and decide what you will keep, what can be donated, and what just needs to make its way into the dumpster. This part may take the longest, but it’s sure to give you a fresh start in your new home.

Label Everything

Invest in a label maker or keep tape and a marker always at the ready. Sure, maybe you know what’s in each box now, but will you remember a few weeks or months from now? Better to be safe than sorry! Also, be specific. Writing “Kitchen” is helpful, but when you’re unpacking the kitchen looking for a spatula for dinner your first night in the home “Kitchen Cooking Utensils” will be much more helpful. This will keep you more organized when packing the boxes, save you from having to explain where each box should be placed during the moving day, and help you quickly find items while unpacking.

Recruit Help

Call up your family and friends to see who can help on the big day. Whether you have volunteers to help lift boxes/furniture, direct boxes to their respective spaces, or keep you children and pets occupied, every little bit makes a huge difference. Additionally, after all the hard work is done, you have all your friends and family in one place to help you enjoy your first moments in your new home.
